Saying thank you an goodbye

I have been working on blog post here and there this week but have gotten distracted because I have been really working on decluttering and deep cleaning.
My sister and I are doing a 30 day home cleaning challenge and in addition I am really trying to objectively- that hard for me- declutter.
Our house is a unique layout. Very old style separate rooms- the opposite of open floorplans. Because of the layout and small square footage 4 of us can feel like too many for this house.
In the next year we are really hoping for and expecting so major changes so in anticipation of these coming or potential changes I am really trying to downsize. Basicity I am doing a virtual move. Trying to get rid of anything I would get rid of in a move.
I have gone through cabinet’s drawers, closets and my cedar chest. I am also selling a ton of my furniture. I am kind of sentimental so it has been hard but I just think about the potential stressful changes coming and continue the purge.

Here is a silly collage of some to the lovely things that I might miss but am thinking of selling. See the sentimental side of me wanted pictures to remember these things

The old "green" Chair slip covered (again)

The slipcover for this chair was made from my kitchen curtains, which where originally fabric to recover my dinning room chairs. So this fabric has really worked hard for me , I got it over a year ago on sale for a dollar a yard at at Home Fabrics.
This chair is a really unusual shape and I hoped that the country french toile-ness of the fabric would help the chair seem more welcoming and soft.
I have made 3 slip covers for this chair and i have not been really happy with any of them. Because the chair does not have a separate seat cushion it is hard to get the slip cover to pull right when its sat upon.
I think the fabric works well on the chair over all.
I used a cut and pin technique when I slip cover. I just looked up miss mustard seeds tutorial on you tube and found it helpful even though I was doing a different style of chair.
I was trying to find a  before picture but I didn't find a one, just trust me I had not taken a picture for a reason.

The makeover of a chair

I got this chair about 10 months ago from Savers. I kept it in the garage for a few months waiting to finish it before I finally just used it as the office chair. Unfortunately the seat cushion was uncomfortable so I moved it to my sons room where I would not have to worry about it.

Finally yesterday I got moving and refinished it.
I layered a few paint colors mixed with plaster and distressed it.*
I used 80 grit sand paper and then went over everything with fine 220 for a smooth finish.
The fabric was left over from some other projects.

I love how light it looks finished. Its the perfect place to read bedtime stories, which is one of my favorite things to do with my kids.
The bedtime story last night was The Cloud Spinner.  (A very cute story)

*Note- I used sample size paints that where about 3/4 full and then mixed in about a teaspoon (a little less) of the plaster it helped the consistency of the paint so that the finish would not be so latex-like. This is not the "proper" way to do this but it was incredibly cost effective and I had no problems with the finish. I normally sand before I paint wood but because I was going for a really distressed look anyways I did not worry about sanding this chair. I did cover the top with a clear wax to protect the finish.
