playing in leaves

Each fall as per tradition we play in the leaves with grandma!
Its a highlight.  I love running into the brightly colored crisp leaves and hearing them crunch. Fall is so vibrant and beautiful. It my favorite time of year. the leaves, crisp air, apple cider and corn mazes...

our traditions

For our anniversary obviously we didn't do much this year. But we did exchange gifts.
Mitch gave me a ring and I got him a gift card and slippers, and a super beautiful overpriced mushy card- because that how I roll. WE also got a new beaches calendar so that we can draw little cartoons of ourselves on the beach (we really do that)!

We had yummy sparkling cider and we completed this years puzzle! We get a new puzzle ever Christmas for us to do together. 6 years in counting. It is a very fun tradition I love it!

Taking the tree down

On January 1st 2016 we took our Christmas things down.
The white stocking tradition and taking tree down day. special and bitter sweet. until next year.

We took down the tree(s) while listening to the Piano guys Christmas CD Mitchell got me for Christmas, and we filled up boxes all together. I get set up with my boxes and tissue paper and everyone takes things down off the tree and gives them to me to pack up carefully.
After everything was down we wrote a spiritual goal on the paper and put in in the White stocking for next year. We got the stocking from the bishop and his wife in our newly wed student ward years ago, the idea is that its your gift to the Savior.

As a side note the poor Joseph from our nativity took another fall! That's four times this year that he has been knocked over and beheaded. Poor thing! It felt like every time someone walked by he fell down, one of the 3 wise men also took a fall or two but mostly poor Joseph! He is recovering with some gorilla glue on the workbench in the garage while the rest of the Nativity sits in its box waiting, hopefully my man can fix him, this time he lost his head and most of the base of him shattered, ouch!

Christmas eve goodness

It was a long and fabulous Christmas eve. We cleaned the house to perfection, because Santa does not come to a messy house. We played in the snow at Grandmas and built snowmen while the guys headed out to see Star Wars again. We also decorated sugar cookies with cousins. Also we made salads and wrapped white elephant gifts for the Christmas eve west family party.
When the men returned we headed out.
The party was a blast as usual but as usual I forgot to take pictures.
After the party we headed home we had some down time to relax and watch Its a Wonderful Life, as per our Christmas Eve Tradition, we also ate more of the yummy dinner we had made the day before. After the movie and dinner we went to my parents house in order to have the grand kids do a little nativity and talent show. We got some hilarious videos!
We also did a white elephant gift exchange and grandparents got the grand kids all matching PJ's. So cute! I love the sweetness of them all matching.
We took the kids home and the kids and I decorated cookies and set out everything for Santa, including our cute little Santa mouse, then we read The Night Before Christmas and did our advent activity from the friend, and the Christmas star ornaments.
Then I headed downstairs and Mitchell and I got things moving. We set out all the gifts and filled the stocking just so like I like to do. We wrote a short letter from Santa, we moved the Christmas tree to the center of the room... Christmas music and baking of cinnamon rolls followed in preparation for Christmas morning.
I love setting everything up for Christmas and anticipating the children s faces!
I set all the gifts for other people under the front room tree and in their bedroom under the small blue tree I set up oranges and the Russian nesting dolls, we covered the tree in candy canes.

It was a late night, after I was sure everything was just so, I went to bed. Mitch and his brothers stayed up late playing games.

The 23rd

We always have a big Durrant family party on the evening of the 23, we also usually use that day to do our families big special dinner, also this year Mitchell's brothers where with us and one of them had a birthday that day. It was pretty good.

Our big dinner this year was amazing , and beautiful. I FAILED to take a picture, Huge regret! I get distracted and intimidated when other people are around.
Anyways , this year we bought a set of beautiful vintage style special Christmas salad plates that where very festive, I used our new linen monogrammed napkins and a vintage linen piano cover from great grandma to decorate the table. Mitchell prepared a feast, amazing ham with ham gravy (soooo good, oh my , so good!) green beans, fruit, mashed potatoes whipped to perfection with extra butter and cream, and grape juice.
I had festive Christmas Crackers set on each plate, just like last year, and we got Mitchell's brothers to talk about their goals for the next years, which was fun. seriously the food was so good i am craving it again now. It was fun to have everything set up too, we used our new dishes the hand me down goblets from my mom and the perfect touch was the new chairs we got for our kitchen! 6 solid wood new non rocky, clean, beautiful chairs!
After dinner we cleaned everything up and prepared a cheese tray for the party that night.
We had a great time at the party , it was much smaller turn out then previous years but it was good anyways, we visited with people (especially aunt Marie) and wee snacked and sang the 12 days of Christmas and got great white elephant gifts!
after the party we went to my parents because the Blair's and Barthlome's had just shown up!
later we watched the Seinfeld Fetivus episode.

Merry Christmas from The Hill's

Merry Christmas Darlings, Happy new year too!
I really was on the ball about Christmas cards this year, up until they shipped late and I didn't get them until late last week... and then I just felt like WHY! I have sent some Christmas cards out and a few of you got a really nice tri fold card from us earlier this month, but the rest of you will probably either get the card in person or just have to see this post and feel special. Its just so late in to the season to send cards to people who I will see anyways.
I did write a Christmas letter but our printer is running low ( I keep forgetting when I am at the store!) so I will post the letter here too.
An for all the friends who sent cards to us THANK YOU!! I am a girl who loves getting mail and all the cards we have received this year have been a source of joy to me- silly as that may be- so thank you! If you sent me one I have probably sent one your direction as well!
Without further chit chatting , on to the letter!

Friends and family,
This year was another good year for our family. Life has ups and downs and we certainly had trials as well as fun times, but overall we can so that the Lord has blessed us abundantly!
We enjoyed several trips early on in the year, we went to Utah and saw loved ones and later we went to Washington for a family trip (thank you to the tanners for the invitation to your property!).
In the beginning of the year, our sweet little white ford focus finally gave up on us and we had to sell it. We were sad to see it go because of all the memories attached to it. A tender mercy was that a month or so after that my grandpa Durrant generously sold us his Mercury Sable. We are so grateful to have it now, it is a wonderful, reliable car that will last us a good long time. We really feel the blessing of that and have so much gratitude for those that helped us- you all know who you are.
In May My sister Jessica got married to a wonderful old friend of hers named Todd, I spent many fun hours helping my mom and sister plan and prepare for her wedding. My boys really love having another fun uncle!
Sadly in the beginning of June Grandpa Durrant passed away from this life to the next, we are sad because we miss him, but we know that we will see him again! This was the same week that we had our first miscarriage, it was an emotional month, but again we are so grateful for kind family and friends and their love and support.
In the late summer Mitchell was able to get accepted very quickly into a Masters program for Educational Leadership and Administration. We are so proud! It is a year round, 2 year program, he has night classes and Saturday classes, it has kept us all busy but we are so grateful for this opportunity! Also this year Mitchell in addition to his teaching is the attendance dean for freshmen at the high school, and he has been able to be a coordinator for the afterschool program he has been involved in the last several years. We are so grateful for these opportunities! Just recently he was hired to be an online professor for BYUI, he will be teaching one class for now and started the second week on December. We are so grateful for this blessing as it will not only be great experience but will help pay for the big expense we have coming in May.
In January Eli moved up from nursery to sunbeams at church, it felt like a big step! But he loves it and does well! In June Eli finished his first year of preschool, we loved it, he learn so much and most importantly (in my way of thinking) he has been able to make friends, improve his speech and learn social skills. We liked it so much last year that we put both boys in this year! They started in September and they are both loving it. Both boys are potty trained and I love the lack of diaper changing!
I have been busy at home. I trained for another race this summer and we continued to make small updates around our home, one of the biggest ones was getting a new furnace and air conditioner! This summer was much more comfortable then that last few! Also for a gift early in the year my husband bought me a Camera! I have spent many wonderful times this year out shooting pictures and preserving memories of our sweet little family of four. In August the opportunity came for me to watch a little baby in our home during the work days. We love having “baby T” over each day, the boys get along with him so well. It’s all boys around here these days and it is so much fun. Baby T’s mom works at the district office for Nampa so it is convenient because most vacation days are the same as Mitchells. Big Blessing!
We were excited to find out we were expecting again and we will be due in mid may! That is probably the biggest news from my corner. I am once again very sick but we have a great doctor and a good combination of meds so that overall I am doing really well. We just feel so blessed, in the end it’s all more than worth it we have looked forward to expanding our little family with a lot of anticipation!

We are so glad that we have so many loving friend and family members and extend thanks to all of you for your kindness, love and support over that past year. We look forward to next year and the times we will spend with so many of you! Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
Love, the Hill family

Christmas FHE light tour

Yesterday was Family night at our house and this one we really kicked off Christmas season. I love doing FHE's that coordinate with whatever holiday - maybe its my kids young ages but it helps hold attention and excitement for the lesson longer. Last week we read the Christmas oranges story and had oranges, this week we read a story out of the friend and then did a simple activity that is in the story. We then decorated cookies we had made and cut out earlier, and then we went

together as a family to look at Christmas lights. It is a fun tradition we do each year, I love traditions!
