I have been reading a lot these past few months and it’s been fun to learn
new things. I have also been reading books with my sister Rebecca and then
discussing them over the phone. I have read too many books to list which I feel
happy about. Last year I made a goal to read "new" books.
I was in a rut of just reading the same books in my personal library
Over and over
And over.
They are good books, mostly classics, but I needed to learn new things and
reading is always my favorite way to do that.
I started with books I had read for collage classes books like 'raising an
emotionally intelligent child' By John Gottman and then worked on reading the
recommended books listed in the back, I also did that with "the happiness
project" By Gretchen Rubin and "love and logic" By Foster Cline
and Jim Fay.
I got many of the books written by C.S. Lewis that I had not
read before and I read a few what I would call "heavy" fiction books
like "the curates awakening" By George MacDonald.
I read AT LEAST 12 books on marriage, which I always enjoy (I am careful
about what books I choose to read not all of them are good); I also read
"the Fly lady" and "America's Cheapest family". I enjoyed
all of them I then decided to turn more attention to "church" books
like 'return' by Robert D Hales and "because he first loved us" by
Henry B Eyring.
I also bought several books for my personal library! I want to be honest
Mitchell bought me a lot of books I wanted; I have the best Husband ever!
I then went on a search for children's books I love. I found several
at thrift shops! 'I love you this much' and "A snowy day' and many by Dr
sues, how exciting! Mitchell also bought me several children's books of Amazon,
he really is the best!
But now after months of informative reading I decided to start to
branch back out towards fiction because, I’ll be honest, I missed it! I have
purchased books like 'the poisonwood bible' and 'out of the dust' for me to
read because I feel like they have a lot of good historical information to give
me but I also bought 'A year down yonder' By Richard Peck (I love his books)
and "Ballet shoes' By Noel Stratified simply because I love children’s
literature.
I still felt hungry for a "new flavor" of book then I normally
read, so my mom lent me a historical fiction book "and only to deceive' so
fun! So now I am hungry for more fun reading! I walked down the street to my
new neighbor and good friends house Holly Barns and she lent me another
historical fiction book and already I am hooked!
I check out books from the library 5 at a time and I always use the online
system to place holds on the books I want to read from home! One of my favorite
things about being a Stay at home mommy is reading books at nap time, or more
often, reading books in bed after the kids are asleep
Before I sound like someone that should be smarter than I am, with all this
reading, I will say that although we DON’T have cable or any TV, we do own
several seasons of Bewitched, Gilligan’s island and our favorites Seinfeld
and Psych! So yes I do like my “TV shows”!
The Poisonwood Bible is one of my favorites! I've read it a couple times.
ReplyDeleteHave you read the Outlander series by Diana Gabaldon. FANTASTIC!
