Also Becky and my mom wanted to see what the room looked like :) the pictures didn't turn out like i wanted but here they are !
i have some finishing touches to do here, flowers and old rolls of music... and i should put the picture on the floor away before one of my boys knocks it over..
he is just so wonderful! look at that face!
above-so i refinished this side table, my drawer got put on upside down, Micheal and Mitchell you guys know why, :) thanks for moving it and fixing it guys! it turned out great!
Below-i also refinished the big picture frame above the fire place. how too's: you sand and sand and sand and paint and paint and sand and white wash. :)
My wonderful mom and mother in law helped me. I reupholstered these two chairs. my wonderful aunt gave me the frames of them for free! I had to clean them , REALLY clean them since they had been outside housing some mice. I stripped them down the the wood and hosed them down and put bleach all over them :) they dried out, then we went shopping at a discount designer fabrics store, way to much fun! Then we got new foam for the chairs and wow i wont go in to it but its a lot of work and staples and wonderful things like that! My mom was the teacher and my mother in law helped when she was here too! they got me through the first chair and then they both left the state :( but i continued on and finished the other chair by myself. It looks identical to the first one ( but not as perfect). Thanks so much two both my mom and mom in law!
the foot stool i found at savers and to save time (i wanted to have the room done by the time my hubby got home yesterday) i just sewed a cover for it to match the chair. Someday i might refinish the wood of it but for now i am very happy! :) Just a side note I always wash everything i bring home especially thrift store finds!! You never know what crazy super bug might be hiding on something. (Becky and mom i hope you got a laugh from that, and yes i still carry my wipes and sanitizer everywhere)
This lovely chair was a Craigslist find that i actually got, usually i want things from Craigslist but never actually go for it and get them.
i sanded and re stained and varnished it and then my mom and i , mostly mom reupholstered it to match the colors in the room.!
Ah! the TV hiding center! it used to be black, take a moment to process that please, .... yep black.
so needless to say sanding it was fun
really fun,
and really...black dusty,
black dusty gets everywhere by the way...
and it does not wash well, just so you know. :)
so i sanded and WASHED IT DOWN thoroughly , remember the black dusty, then i primed it, then i painted it three more times not kidding THREE, then i sanded it.
In order to save $ i just bought the 2nd cheapest white interior paint at the store and mixed the beige color myself using one of the sample paints i already had on hand. after painting all those times and sanding away all the drips and such i wanted it to look more... YES! so i whitewashed it. after i had it just right it waxed it. I wax EVERYTHING i paint because it protects the finish, washes better, and just looks nicer, its non toxic so no worries there, Eli had a blast helping me! If you ever need to get the wax off use mineral spirits. Home depot people will help you find what ya need.
I made new pillows! i had to sew them and the curtains at night after the kiddos where asleep because they LOVE to play with the buttons on my sewing machine!
I made the sign and the table thing from scraps of wood in our garage, more sanding and painting. I also got to play with the drill and saw, FUN! Eli helped to the decorative painting, his sweet little fingers...
don't you love that table cloth?
Just another DI find that needed paint and sanding.
Well that's my living room. obviously i don't have several of the finishing touches done and i know i want to add crown molding , and a new light fixture, and i want to re tile the fireplace, and fix the ............ but its easy to want and buy; its harder and better to be happy with what you have.
I am so grateful that my wonderful husband gave me the $$$ and the support to actually decorate a room i had never done it before (except on paper and in my mind)i really enjoyed it, and i am thankful to my mom and mother in law and aunt Amy for all their help too! It did not turn out exactly like i wanted and things where more expensive then i wanted but i had a great time and did it inexpensively and i will change the things i don't like over time and enjoy the overall feeling every time i am in there, i am thankful for our home!
OH. MY.GOSH. LLLLLOOOOOVVVVVEEEEE it. seriously LOVE it. your amazingly talented :)
