I have been an avid reader pretty much my whole life, my
mother read to us every day and even now remains an amazing reader. I remember
at a very young age her reading aloud to me before bed; introducing us to L.M. Montgomery
and CS Lewis. I still remember rolling with laughter as she read us Tom Sayer. This
early “training” to read introduced me to a whole new world (or worlds), and i loved reading. I knew I loved the classics, Louisa May Alcott,
Mark Twain (so funny), writers like F.H. Burnett and Jack London, Laura Ingalls
Wilder, EB White…All of the typical and well known “classic” authors such as
Jean Craighead George, Anna Sewell, Jules Verne, Noel Stratified, Sir Walter
Scott, Robert Louis Stevenson, and who does not enjoy Shakespeare from time to
time. I love Jane Austen, I find enjoyment
reading the Bronte sisters and of course I have a certain fondness/ more like
respect for Charles Dickens and Dostoyevsky. There are so many more i love and even more i have yet to read!
It happens every few years or months where i become so obsessed with a type of book or specific author that i read ferociously and give up TV entirely in order to dive into the books.
In high school I quickly became introduced to the
fantasy genera and found so many favorites its pointless to mention them, some of my favorite authors are:
Anne Macaferry, Gail Carson Levine, and of course Robin McKinley. I read my way through many of those classics mentioned before and even went on a sort of Newberry honor book marathon reading and searching for all of them that i could. In collage i found the need to read some books that where perhaps more thought provoking like
the life of Pi and The Poisonwood bible. When I hit my second year of collage I developed a strong fascination
with family relations (I studied it in school) and I quickly began collecting
non-fiction branching out to different subjects as I went, finally getting more interested in history and politics and reading some non fiction in those subjects. As an adult I have created extensive lists of books that are "of literary merit" or historical importance that i have told myself i need to read. For instance i have never read anything by Victor Hugo, (i know your disgusted right?) i have never read Uncle Toms Cabin or the Count of Monte Cristo. I set myself up for a serious course of study, and then, overload, Mitchell made sure that i got a stack of lighthearted casual books from a good friend down the street (thanks Holly) ..
And now…….. It has happened again
I think I discovered a liking within myself for a totally
new genre of fiction! I have been absolutely devouring historical fiction Christian
romances… is that a real genre? Anyways seriously though I am reading a book a
day, it’s ridiculous! I never knew! I will be honest it took several tries and
quite a few books for me to really get into it, last year I got into a comedy
historical fiction mood and this year it just became this, several books though
went through my hands before I started seeking this genre out on my own, when
your practically raised off Jane Austin, Alcott and Montgomery, all other
romances seem…??? Well they are not quite at the same level, that’s why
everyone knows their name. But Now that I have kind of worked through that kind
of “I don’t know” thought process I find them extremely fun!
I have also been back into a great cleaning mood recently finally
feeling like I am coming out of the postpartum “ah what am I doing??? Ah stop
that...” phase it’s so nice!
Mitchell and I have been so good about weekly dates for like
a month or more now and I notice a difference and I am loving the extra time
alone with him!
I have been doing platies/yoga and a lot of walking a bit of
everything every day for about a month or so now too and its really starting to
pay off! Which makes me feel so excited? I Like the kind of “center yourself ,
breath , sit , stand correctly” focus that those routines require and I think
it is starting to be a stress relief for me now that I feel more comfortable
with it.
Last week Eli colored on my wall paper (I don’t want to keep
it forever but still) so I had HIM clean it off the wall. Also I just took some
pictures of the kids excited that daddy’s home here’s the pictures!
If you're in the mood for Austinesque fluff try Edenbrooke. It's more contemporary, made easier to read for modern audiences (aka it's a little dumbed down compared to real Austin and the like), but it's cute. Like I said, just if you're in need of some good fluff reading. :)
ReplyDeleteLaura! I miss you and our book talks, i just read Edenbrooke and i LOVED it! Thanks for the recommendation! i also just got dandelion wine and three cups of tea.
