The west side of the family had a reunion! My aunt and Uncle
own some property in Westport WA . They are about a block from the beach at was
away beach. Its is called wash away beach because the ocean is literally
washing away the land.
The travel there day.
On Wednesday (the day before) I had deep cleaned the house. Gone
shopping (I got lots of good stuff) and made pizza for dinner and the road. We
got everything packed and ready in the car so that the next morning we just had
to fill the cooler and put ourselves in the car.
So Thursday (Day one)
we woke up at 5 AM and got going, we stopped in La Grande for breakfast
at McDonalds –I know I know- after that we just drove. I had the Portable DVD
player for the kids and they watched Charlie brown. I had driven the first leg
of the drive but Mitchell took over so I could rest.
The Mr. had planned a route that had good stops for us and
the big one was the Waterfall we stopped at. I had not thought we would be near
the waterfall- I thought it would be more like and overlook, but it was
amazing, you could go right up to it! (see pictures)
We spent about an hour to hour and a half at the fall and
then we moved on. We stopped in Portland
for a snack and restroom. Everybody got excited when we crossed over the
Columbia into WA from Oregon.
We drove on all the way through to the final destination.
Westport.
When we arrived the camp was empty so we walked the block to
the beach, and everybody was there so we all joined them in the beach fun. Three
of my Aunts and Uncles and there kids where already there some had been there
since Monday. So we had plenty of cousins to play with when we arrived.I had
thought it would be cool,, but to my joy it was like 80 and sunny! Happy
evening!
We greeted everyone at the beach and then we played for a
few hours before the whole big group of us headed back to make dinner. They had
pretty much everything you could need at the property including a shower and
washer and dryer- we made good use of both.
After dinner we set up our tent are and everyone at camp relaxed and
made s’mores around the fire. Heavy fog rolled in so we didn’t go back to the
beach except to stand on the cliff and watch the tide roll in.
Everyone else came in that night total we had all of the
Aunts and uncles come and 20 grand kids. We were missing 20 other grandchildren
and 5 great grandchildren. 3 of those
who cloud not come where on missions 2 were in school, all the rest who could
not come where working and in many case working out of state, so considering, I
think it was and excellent turnout!
That night we saw a whole bunch of deer right by the camp.
My Uncle saw 2 really close and probably got much better pictures!
As we all sat around camp my young cousins and I played
those clapping games that grade school
kids love “miss mark Mack” etc for the longest time. It was so neat to get to know my young cousins.
