The Hill Family on the 1st of May

the baby bump is coming along!

Hey mommy I know its early but I want a bath. And look I can get out the washcloths all by myself!

The cool shelf thing in the back ground was a recent project of mine!
Mitchell's Birthday Lunch at Red Robin
Recently our sweet little boy has had difficulty with the whole sleep time thing. We were all moving along just great he would fall asleep in his big boy bed after a regular routine and then we would put him in his crib before we went to bed, he would wake up happy but after a chipped tooth and some nights at someone else’s house we are having to work on the sleep through the night thing. He usually wakes up think it’s playtime and will get into everything! Today it was under the bathroom sink, but the best joke was on Sunday when Mitchell got up with him he took him into the living room got out his toys for him and feel asleep on the couch, when he woke up he found chocolate EVERYWHERE! Eli had pulled the trash apart and found the chocolate fudge I had thrown away, yuck aside for freaking out because he ate something that had been in the garbage, Mitchell and I also got very mad because the mess extended to all item of furniture and the carpet. Needless to say my sweet husband spent a good part of Sunday morning on his hands and knees cleaning chocolate fudge out of the carpet.
About a month ago I finished a project that I had been wanting to do for a long time and about a week ago I had I looking nice enough to take a picture of. When I married my husband he had a large Queen Anne style record player box (I don’t really know its technical name) but we simply called it the music box. It was a dark stain and very beat up it had an interesting plaid type fabric in the front where the speakers used to be and it opened like a chest on the top.  The main problem was that it was not very functional for our needs. If I could have put it in an entryway it would have been great but as it was... So one day on pintrest I saw a bookcase someone had built to go on top of an old coffee table, inspiration! The first thing I did was take the music box over to my parents shop, thanks mom and dad, and take the false front covered in fabric off to see what I had to work with. Tuned out that it had been reinforced and everything so all I had to do was choose new fabric to replace the old fabric at Joann’s I found some I really liked on sale. My mom helped me recover the front with the new fabric, and my husband helped me build a tall shelf. I put a simple decorative trim around it, and then I sanded down the old music box. Once everything was sanded I began painting, (I picked up some “Oops!” paint at home depot for $3) after I had painted everything and let it dry and gone back over I put a wax finish on it to protect the paint from scratching and to give it a finished look. By the way the wax was great easy to use nontoxic and smelt like oranges. Best part I didn’t have to wait forever for it to dry and then do several layers. It was like waxing a car! I left the shelf and music box separate so that in the future if I want I can have the original top open music box and a shelf for the kid’s room. We love the way it looks and it has a much less formal feeling to it now that its painted cream.
Mitchell had a birthday yesterday; we got him a Wii and a game. I also ordered him a specially made card from an online company called treat, my shutterfly account told me about it and guess what it only cost me $.48 that’s right the cost of a stamp, your first try is free! He really liked it I put pictures of our family and us inside with a personal note, more like a letter, they give you as much text and pictures as you want.
I have been working on some big goals. Before the move I felt like I was a clean organized person, place for everything and everything in its place, a day and time for everything and so on, but after the move and the very tired pregnancy stage I was way out of organized. After listening to general conference I realized that because I was so stressed about the things that I should have done on a schedule I did not have or enjoy functional free time with my family as often as I wanted, especially with Mitch working nights. So I decided to make a big list of goals and what I needed to do to accomplish them. I won’t list them all because it’s quite the list but the one I have really been working on is getting organized. I am working on deep cleaning, and getting rid of things I really don’t LOVE or NEED, Making a strict schedule for myself and Eli, and Making a menu. The menu idea is not new to me so I know the virtues of it, I have been doing it for quite a while one month at a time with a weekly shopping list, but now with only one car and things not being in walking distance I want to go farther. My big project is creating several monthly menus with healthy meals, three a day, with shopping lists and food storage meals/ ideas, and I want to compile them into a binder so that on any given month I won’t get caught on the only day I have the car without a menu or the time to prepare one! It’s a bigger project then I thought it would be!
We find out in a few weeks what our baby will be girl or boy, and my tummy is starting to look the part. My Mitchell man I still busy applying for jobs and working.
